Ryan writing:
I have just taught first through third periods here at OCA. This is fourth period: my senior Bible class. The seniors, however, are gone from school - they are done with classes and are now on their senior trip. I am left alone in my classroom.
Each year as the seniors leave early, it takes me back to my own graduation(s). Time continues to pass, people enter and leave your life, and changes are continually made.
It doesn't make you love your students less, though. It is hard to see them go, hoping for their best; that they will be able to make it through the jungle of life that they really know so little about.
Some will leave this place and have their faith strengthened in the days ahead - sharpening their focus as they encounter the challenges to their faith that the Universities and "Life" offer. Some, though, will undoubtedly have a tougher time of it - having to learn life's mistakes firsthand instead of learning from the example of those around them.
As their teacher, I pray for them all.
Perhaps, in the end, that's part of what it means to be a teacher?

I think it's kind of like parenting. In my own family, there have been those of us who have had to learn lessons the hard way and others who have been more about seeing the mistakes of others, been wise and stood firm for what is right and true. As a parent you pray for them, but sometimes, children chose to make some very unwise decisions. You have to turn them over to the Lord.
BTW...Summer is GREAT!
